Six generations after Michael Wirtz acquired a family land grant north of Chicago, Ivanhoe Farm continues to thrive today as a 400-acre agricultural operation.
Established in 1857, the farm remains one of the oldest family-owned farms in Chicagoland. Today, the Wirtz family continues to carry the values of their ancestors by giving back through producing farm crops and nursery stock.
Ivanhoe Nursery represents one of the newest additions to the farm featuring a wide variety of trees and shrubs. Ivanhoe Nursery grows plants that are suited to the Northern Chicagoland area as well as surrounding states. Their inventory includes over 250 species and cultivars of plants. Most of their plants are balled and burlapped (B&B), grown in heavy clay soil, giving them the advantage of better survivability and less transplant shock.
